The presence of anti-HAV (total), in the absence of clinical symptoms, indicates previous exposure or vaccination, and immunity to hepatitis A virus.
Diagnosis of acute infection is by the detection of anti-HAV IgM antibodies using the anti-HAV IgM assay. Positive anti-HAV IgM indicates current or recent Hepatitis A infection.
