Preparation

  • Adult collection: 2 sets (4 bottles), 7 – 10 mls blood per bottle.
  • Endocarditis: 3 sets (6 bottles), 7 – 10 mls blood per bottle, MUST be separate venepunctures. (Time between sets can be random.)
  • Paediatric collection: Hospital, 1 paediatric bottle with 2 – 4 mls blood. Community, 1 aerobic bottle with 4mls blood.
  • TB/ Mycobacterium chimaera: Require specialist approval (Refer to Clinical Microbiologist), routine standard blood cultures x 3 sets required. MycoF Lytic bottle to be collected only when Mycobacterium chimaera investigation approved. Registration code is the same.
