Patients with clinically suspected measles should have the nasopharyngeal swab (NPS) for measles PCR and any other necessary blood tests performed at the initial clinical consultation. They should NOT attend PathLab collection rooms.
Patients with confirmed measles should NOT attend PathLab collection rooms for any laboratory testing during their infectious period (until at least 5 days after the onset of rash).

Measles IgM
If measles is clinically suspected, discuss appropriate testing with a clinical microbiologist. Measles PCR (preferred specimen: nasopharyngeal swab) is the recommended test for diagnosing acute measles infection.
Not recommended for the diagnosis of measles, except on the advice of a clinical microbiologist.
Measles IgG
Recommendedfor assessment of measles immunity only.
Not recommended for the diagnosis of measles, except on the advice of a clinical microbiologist.
Patients with suspected measles should have a nasopharyngeal swab (preferred) or throat swab collected for measles PCR, along with any other clinically indicated blood tests, at the initial clinical assessment. They should not attend a community collection room.
Patients with confirmed measles should not attend community collection rooms for laboratory testing during their infectious period (until at least 5 days after rash onset).
